Selecting and Implementing Intervention
Even though the expectation is that students will learn to read with understanding before advancing to the middle grades, the reality is that many students reach the middle grades and are unable to read grade level text fluently and with understanding. Research has demonstrated that struggling readers in middle school can improve their reading ability when provided supplemental reading intervention that directly addresses vocabulary, comprehension, and word-reading.

Need a bus?
For your information, Hawai‘i P-20 will be accepting requests for bus funding support from schools that have at least 40% of students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Buses may serve students at eligible middle and high schools, statewide.
To submit a request for bus funding support, schools will need to complete the Hawai‘i P-20 Bus Support Request Form (online):
